Don't "fraid" it use it

Many of us as teachers are hesitant to engage in using technology because we are afraid that our kids are more knowledgeable than us in using technology. We shun away from using technology in our teaching so as to make our lessons more meaningful and enjoyable for our students. According to Gee and Levine (2009) teachers must transform their classroom and their teaching but, like the students they serve, they need scaffolding to change and grow.
The Ministry Of Education in the setting up of a number of training programs in Information Communication Technology (ICT) during the holidays have realized that teachers need the relevant training and scaffolding in order to fully implement ICT in the classroom. I do hope after the training that teachers will implement what was taught in the planning of lessons so that they will be some form of transformation in the setting of the classroom for teaching and learning.

  1. Lynette, some teachers at my school "fraid it". Therefore, they won't use it. They still use pencil and paper not to mention chalk and talk in their everyday teaching. Lynette, you need to take a look at my post entitled "Benefits of IT for Reading Teachers" which I published on Monday 28th June, 2010. It supports and extends your view. Clearly Lynette, there are tremendous benefits of using ICT in educational settings.

  2. Lynette I believe that the reluctance to use the technology is not so much that people are afraid or find that it is a waste of time. I is not even so much that they feel the children may know more than them, but really that we do not know how to use the technology, at all or not effectively.

With the help of the training I am sure many more teachers may become more enthusiastic in trying it out. At least I feel as if I am much more willing to give it another go, my attempts in the past having not been as successful as I wanted it to be.
